In recognition of the debt owed to our armed services, bakerbus will be providing free travel to any serviceman or women using its local bus services.
The North Staffs and Cheshire region served by bakerbus has strong links with several Army regiments. These include the Queen’s Royal Lancers and the 1st Batallion of the Mercian Regiment which are due to return from Afghanistan shortly.
“This offer is a small token of thanks and appreciation for all that they do on our behalf,” said managing director, Phil Baker.
Free travel applies to all bakerbus services starting from 1st October. All that is required is the production of a current military identity card. As well as Army regiments, this offer is open to all members of the armed services including Royal Navy, Royal Marines and the Royal Air Force, all of which recruit many young people from Cheshire and North Staffordshire.
Phil Baker adds: “In choosing this date, however, we are particularly mindful of the imminent return of soldiers from the 1st Mercian (Cheshire) from Afghanistan, many of whom will soon be taking home leave with their families living in Congleton, Macclesfield, Crewe and Sandbach – all of these towns are now served by regular bakerbus services.
