Coach Travel Centre, Biddulph, 10.00am to 4.00pm, Sunday 2 October.
It will be open-house at Bakers Coaches for Biddulph residents on Sunday 2 October as the company launches celebrations to mark its 75th anniversary in passenger transport.
Following the theme ‘Celebrating Passenger Transport’, visitors to the Coach Travel Centre at Victoria Business Park will be invited to view some of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ aspects of the operation of this family run business – its history and development over seven decades.
Star attraction will be the new bakerbus double-deckers, which will be entering service on 3rd October. These are latest generation public service vehicles designed to reduce urban pollution by using hybrid diesel- electric propulsion technology.
By contrast there will be a number of historic vehicles, including luxury coaches from the Sixties era and examples of the type of limousines, used during the Thirties and Forties, when James and Ethel Baker operated the business from the Whitegate Garage, Whitemoor.
“We are aiming to make this a fun day for all the family,” said managing director Phil Baker.
“Since the focus is on passenger transport, any owners of vintage coaches and cars such as the limousines from Austin (Princess), Humber (Pullman) of the Fifties and Sixties; will be welcome to help us recreate the atmosphere of luxury travel over seventy five years.”
Other attractions include a Bouncy Castle and Games Stall with Food and Drink available.
Admission will be £1 for adults with no charge for accompanied children. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
