Congleton's Beartown Bus Network, introduced by Cheshire County Council and Bakerbus has been recognised for the quality of the service and performance for more than doubling passenger growth, during its first year of operation.
Having been shortlisted initially, under the 'Winning new customers' category, the Beartown bus service was subsequently 'Highly Commended' at the UK Bus Awards ceremony held recently in London.
Cheshire's Executive Member for Highways and Transportation Eveleigh Moore-Dutton said: "This initiative shows the clear benefits delivered to Cheshire residents and visitors of joint working with service providers to make a positive impact on people's quality of life."
Responding to the award, Phil Baker, Managing Director of Bakerbus said:
"I am pleased that the judges recognised the significant contribution that the Beartown Bus Network has made to the town. Not least of all by encouraging more people to choose to travel by bus rather than by car, which is helping to reduce pollution.
"I would like to congratulate the regular Beartown Bus drivers for their hard work and commitment to providing an enjoyable experience for all our customers."
